Last House by Jessica Shattuck

Nestled deep in the woods of Vermont is the Last House, the anchor that promises to hold Nick and Bet together as they navigate the precarious nature of parenting. This is the volatile 60s and 70s when sociological and historical upheavals were transforming America. Nick contributed to that transformation by working in the oil business, a way he hopes, to a comfortable life for his family. But his children disagree with those values, setting the stage for irreparable damage. TK’s take on family dynamics is impressive and she shines when capturing the stifling societal constraints that Bet endures. A winner.
